چکیده
This paper presents a study of the behavior of several di erence approximations for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations as a function of the computational mesh resolution. In particular, the under-resolved case is considered. The methods considered include a Godunov projection method, a primitive variable ENO method, an upwind vorticity stream-function method, centered di erence methods of both a pressurePoisson and vorticity stream-function formulation, and a pseudospectral method. It is demonstrated that all these methods produce spurious, non-physical vortices of the type described by Brown and Minion for a Godunov projection method [9] when the ow is su ciently under-resolved. The occurrence of these artifacts appears to be due to a nonlinear e ect in which the truncation error of the di erence method initiates a vortex instability in the computed ow. The implications of this study for adaptive mesh re nement strategies are also discussed. Subject Classi cation Index Numbers: 65M10, 76{8, 76D05

متن کاملThree-dimensional characteristic approach for incompressible thermo-flows and influence of artificial compressibility parameter
In this paper the characteristics of unsteady three-dimensional incompressible flows with heat transfer are obtained along with artificial compressibility of Chorin. At first, compatibility equations and pseudo characteristics for three-dimensional flows are derived from five governing equations (continuity equation, Momentum equations in three directions, and energy equation) and then results ...
متن کاملA comparative study between two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations
The present study aimed to investigate two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations. For this purpose, the mentioned flow equations were written in two different formulations, namely (i) velocity-pressure and (ii) vorticity-stream function formulations. Solution algorithms and boundary conditions were presented for both formulations and the efficiency of each formulation was investiga...

In this work, slip flow of helium gas has been studied in a three dimensional rectangular microchannel heat sink with 11 microchannel and 10 rectangular fins. Helium gas flow is considered ideal and incompressible. The finite volume method with using coupled algorithm is employed to carry out the computation. To validate the present work, comparison with numerical and experimental studies is do...

In the present study, commonly used weakly compressible lattice Boltzmann method and Guo incompressible lattice Boltzmann method have been used to simulate fluid flow in a stirred tank. For this purpose a 3D Parallel code has been developed in the framework of the lattice Boltzmann method. This program has been used for simulation of flow at different geometries such as 2D channel fluid flow an...
